2017 saw us filling our homes with jungle prints, fancy flamingos and all things copper! So what does the year ahead hold when it comes to the up and coming home decor trends? There’s some predications that many of us could have guessed, however there’s also a few surprises in store too.

Here are my top predictions for the 2018 home decor trends that you’ll be lusting over in no time…..

Dark Woods

The pale bleached woods of the ever popular Scandinavian trend are set to remain for 2018, however furniture will also be heading to the dark side this year too. 2018 is the year where darker wood tones signify a return of retro glamour, and provide a new take on modern luxe.

Metallic legs and door handles are the perfect finishing touches to add an extra glam feel. And a fusion of walnut, gold, brass and marble gives a more luxurious feel to standard high-street pieces.

Metallic Accents

The addition of metallic touches isn’t exactly front page news, but the big difference in 2018 is the choice of metallic finish – think less copper and more brass! Not only is brass considered the most sophisticated of the metallic colour palette, brass furniture pieces such as mirrors and accessories all help to add a luxurious finish to any room. Adding touches of blush pink and emerald green will help enhance brass and gold tones perfectly.

If you want to ease yourself in gently before investing in larger and more expensive furniture pieces then smaller items such as vases and lamps are the perfect starting point.

The humble houseplant is fast becoming the must-have buy for our homes, and it’s definitely a case of the more the merrier when it comes to these little fellas. Use hanging plants for shelves and mantelpieces and some lovely leafy beauties for bare corners and coffee tables. Team them with stylish pendants, a textured rug and some stripy green cushions for added interest.

Fruity Pineapples

The humble pineapple is back in the game as the trendy motif to adorn your home for spring/summer 2018. Last year the cactus print dominated and beat the pineapple in the popularity stakes, but the tables have turned. Fear not, the cactus isn’t going anywhere just yet, but it’s definitely taking a back-seat to the pineapple for the time being. This bold pineapple wallpaper would look great as a feature wall in most rooms.

Rich Shades

Grey may still be the neutral shade of choice for many but colour is set to be bigger and bolder in 2018. We’re becoming braver with our colour choices – on both walls and furniture pieces. Each year Pantone, the leaders in colour, predict a tone that will be the next big thing in the world of interiors. This year they have chosen ultra violet, an enigmatic blue-based purple shade. Darker shades are rising in popularity too, with navy and emerald green both set to be key colours for 2018.

Tropical Prints

Continuing on from last year, the tropical trend will remain strong – with the retro Swiss cheese plant slotting in nicely next to palm leaves.  The trend has evolved for 2018 – this year there will be less vibrant carnival brights and more lush, energising greens. From wall art to cushions, there’s plenty of ways to incorporate tropical prints into your home decor.

Colour Pop

The addition of a bold pop of colour is one of the strongest trends coming through for 2018. This trend is all about mixing bright colours together, be it in the form of a statement chair, cushions, rugs or even curtains. It’s strong and it definitely makes a statement but is easily manageable at the same time. Use textures to layer the look and don’t be afraid to team patterns and stripes together.
